Luxury Family Trip

Why we love this experience?

  • Being part in Peru tour expeditions with Terra Explorer is easily possible for families with adventurous souls.
  • Paddle one of the quietest and most beautiful sections of the Apurimac Canyon.
  • Live the adventure of luxury camping in the Andes and learn more about the history of the Inca Empire by exploring the impressive archaeological complex of Huchuy Qosqo.

Itinerary

  • General

This trip connects youth and adults with nature and teaches them more about the history, flora, and fauna of a place far from home; but, most of all, it delivers high-quality family time.

For four days, connect with Mother Nature in her purest expression, camp on remote beaches, walk barefoot on the sand, and, above all, live the experience of doing a real canoeing expedition in one of the most remote places in Peru.

Then, for two days, enter into the heart of the Andes. Travel along ancient Inca trails and discover stories about the great Inca Empire by exploring Huchuy Qosqo, the old palace of the Inca Wiracocha, built in the fifteenth century and today considered a National Cultural Heritage site.

Finally, explore the impressive and enigmatic Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

  • Day 1: Welcome to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Cusco. Visit Awanacancha camelid interpretation center.

Your luxury family holidays begins in Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire and cultural heritage of humanity.  At the airport, a Terra Explorer guide will welcome and accompany you to your hotel in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

On the way you will discover the Andes, the longest mountain range on the planet, inhabited by legendary indigenous communities and areas untouched by modernity.

You will stop at the Interpretation Center of South American camelids of Awanacancha where you can appreciate different species of llamas, alpacas, vicuñas and guanacos. An excellent and fun introduction to the culture of the Andes.

    Meals included: Snacks.

Accommodation: Hotel or private house in the Sacred Valley.

  • Day 2: Rafting the Black Canyon of the Apurimac River.

Descending the white waters of the Apurimac River Canyon is not an exclusive experience for grown-ups; the little ones can also enjoy this adventure paddling the calm and fun rapids of a special section for families.

For four days, connect with Mother Nature in her purest expression.

Rocoto Bridge, on the banks of the Apurimac River, is the starting point of this trip.

Meet our guides, learn a little more about the canoeing equipment used for this type of expedition, help us inflate the rafts, and venture out to four days of pure fun.

Paddle calm class I and II rapids until you reach your first campsite. Camp under a million stars and learn more about the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere.

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

    Accommodation: Luxury Family Camping.

  • Day 3: Rafting in Apurimac river.

Today is an action-packed day. Paddle class II and III rapids and feel the power and energy of moving white waters as you travel through areas of great natural beauty.

At midday, we will stop at a beach to have lunch and recharge our batteries for paddling to our second camp. Help us collect firewood, warm yourself by the fire, and share stories and laughter with your team of guides.

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

    Accommodation: Luxury Glamping Tents.

  • Day 4: Rafting in Apurimac river.

A rafting excursion makes you work as a team. You have to follow the guide’s commands in a coordinated manner on the water, which makes for a fun and enjoyable family time.

With everyone in position, embark on another action-packed day, paddling class II and III rapids, traversing incredible scenery, enjoying the fresh air, and observing the flora and fauna of this place.

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

    Accommodation: Luxury Family Glamping.

  • Day 5: Rafting in Apurimac river and transfer to the Sacred Valley.

Today it’s time to paddle the final section of our Apurimac River journey, a morning of calm class I, II, and III rapids until we reach the Huallpachaca Bridge, the last point of the expedition.

Say goodbye to this river and take with you forever the memories of four days of pure nature, adrenaline, and fun.

Transfer to the Sacred Valley lodge.

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Accommodation: Hotel or private house in the Sacred Valley.

  • Day 6: Hike to Huchuy Qosco. Piuray, Qoricocha Pass & Quarry.

The luxury hiking trips starts at Piuray, a beautiful lake located in the pampas of the Cuper Alto Community, a place of great natural beauty.

You will ascend through a wide valley to the Qoricocha Lagoon and explore the quarry from which the Incas extracted the stones to build the Huchuy Qosqo complex.

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Accommodation: Luxury Camping at Huchuy Qosco.

  • Day 7: Huchuy Qosqo Archeological Complex. Farewell dinner at Ani´s private villa.

Enjoy being immersed in the vastness of the Andes as you enter a magical gorge with a different microclimate where you will recognize a change in the surrounding vegetation.

Walk along a very well-preserved Inca trail trek until finally arriving at Huchuy Qosqo. It is located on a natural esplanade, with a spectacular view of the Sacred Valley and the snow-capped Pitusiray, considered a mountain god by the Incas.

Tonight, we will enjoy a special farewell dinner in Ani Vellutino´s country home.  Ani, also a lover of good conversations, opens the doors of her lovely villa, located on the banks of the Vilcanota River facing the Pitusiray Mountain, to share with us her fabulous food, her personality, and the warmth of her home.

Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Accommodation: Hotel or private house in the Sacred Valley.

  • Day 8: Train to Machu Picchu and visit the Inca citadel.

Information on our Covid-19 biosafety protocols and flexible policies

    Taking care of our own

To ensure the well-being and safety of our travelers and staff throughout our operational chain, Terra Explorer will comply with the health and safety measures and protocols established by the Peruvian Association of Adventure Tourism and Ecotourism (APTAE), and implement the Covid-19 health and safety guidelines for adventure tourism developed by the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA).

Our experiences are designed considering the least possible exposure, where the final destinations are usually remote places. By their very nature, our adventure activities are considered to be low risk, mainly because they are performed outdoors where ventilation is constant and making it easy to achieve social distancing.

During these times we are working together with a small staff of honorable people who have been part of the Terra Explorer family for many years. They and their families are aligned with the established health and safety measures. Employing these staff members also seeks to reactivate the local economy.

We guarantee a safe, soul-fulfilling trip to all our travelers for whom we make these adventures possible.

    Our promise to you

Terra Explorer will strictly comply with the safety, cleaning, and hygiene protocols during our internal processes, third parties, and throughout your trip. This involves:

    • All staff involved in Terra Explorer operations are fully vaccinated and the guides are tested for Covid-19 one day prior to meeting clients.
    • Rigorous and constant disinfection of equipment, food and beverages, surfaces shared by travelers, places of activities, accommodation, and transportation.
    • Providing our clients with disinfection stations and resources for personal hygiene at all times of the trip.
    • Personnel trained to comply with the new measures: Use of protective equipment during work, good hygiene practice, social distancing, proper use of hygiene equipment for surfaces and clothing, self-assessment of health and how to respond to the possible event that oneself or someone close to them shows symptoms related to COVID-19.
    • Constant health monitoring of all personnel involved with Terra Explorer.
    • Guides trained to comply with the new security protocols, deliver the appropriate information to the traveler, monitor our travelers‘ health, and follow the established protocols in case a traveler shows symptoms or gets infected with COVID-19.
    • Established protocols and contingency plans if a traveler or staff shows symptoms or gets infected with COVID-19, including medical assistance if required.
    • Keeping you informed before and during your trip, with updates and official news of each visited destination.

    Your promise to us

Follow the instructions related to health and safety given by the Terra Explorer team and your guide, before and during your trip.

    • Good hygiene practice.
    • Compliance with the guidelines provided by local authorities in Peru, such as social distancing, use of masks where necessary, and hand washing.

    Stay home if:

    • Someone close to you or yourself shows symptoms related to COVID-19.
    • You have been exposed to or have tested positive for COVID-19.
    • You have been diagnosed with a severe medical condition that makes you vulnerable.

    Flexible bookings & cancellation policies

With the intention of delivering the most flexibility at the time of confirming your trip, we will determine the amount of the initial deposit individually and according to your itinerary characteristics.

    • Our trips are custom-made. Therefore, we will adapt our payment and cancellation policies individually in a flexible way and according to the booked services.
    • Travel Insurance: We strongly recommended that prior to your trip you purchase a comprehensive travel insurance that will suit your particular situation and needs, taking into consideration eventualities that may arise from the current global Covid-19 pandemic.
